Meet SCT's Experts – Tank
In this edition of our meet the team series, we’re highlighting our Head of Health & Wellbeing, Tank, who brings boundless energy, tail wags and much-needed stress relief to our workdays. He shares a bit about the company culture and the great team that makes SCT a success.
Can you share with me a bit about your background and what led you to join Smart Component Technologies?
Hi there, I’m Tank, a miniature English Bull Terrier and the official Head of Health and Wellbeing here at SCT. While I may not be monitoring IoT solutions or analysing data to help prevent faults on railways, I specialise in begging for belly rubs, lunch break walks and reminding everyone to take screen breaks and to say hi on their way through the office.
I joined the team when I retired from my career as a stud, when my human, Dave, started working full-time on the production side of SCT’s work. I was offered the full-time role of Head of Health & Wellbeing and generally assisting with HR (screening candidates, being a sounding board and mediator etc). Now I’m a full-time employee too, coming in every day and keeping spirits high and chicken snacks disappearing. You’ll usually find me napping under Dave’s desk, or on a table, asleep with my belly and legs up. I also make sure to greet new hires and visitors with plenty of enthusiastic yaps – I can be known to use my voice quite often.
Tank, what did you think of the SWiX RMS Acceleration Data update?
Well, I don’t really understand much about the new preventative features, but I’m told it keeps humans like Dave and my other SCT friends safe on the railways. My job during the research and development phase of the new update was monitoring health and wellbeing, of course and making sure moral was high and deadlines were met. Everyone at SCT seemed to enjoy it – I’m really here to make sure that they’re all doing okay and keeping everything on track (excuse the pun!). My favourite part of the process is working with the production guys. I’m really the one keeping things running, in all honesty – Dave might think he’s the one in charge, but really, it’s me.
Aside from the walks and chicken snacks, why do you enjoy working at SCT?
I do know what I like, and I’m not one to shy away from telling you what I want. Ask Dave – if I decide to take him for a walk and he doesn’t bring my ball? Forget about it. But I do know a great place to be when I see one. And something about the SCT office makes me reluctant to leave – even just for our midday walk. The people here are great – and not just because of their frequent strokes and chicken snacks – they are passionate about what they do.
Thanks for your insights, Tank!
You’re welcome! Whether asleep in the office or up running the corridors before one of my (many) walks throughout the day, I know I’m making SCT’s team work that much better. If you ever do visit, be sure to bring some chicken snacks (but no rawhide) and be ready to give out belly rubs and maybe I’ll let you join me on my walk!
